What is "Giclée"?

1.Giclée (zhee·klay) (noun) - a process by which high-quality prints are produced using an ink-jet printer.

2.Giclée Printing and Framing (noun) - a cozy archival print shop located on route 20 in Palmer, Massachusetts!

Welcome To September!

“Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.”

-Roald Dahl

Can it be? The first month that kicks off the season of the almighty "ber" is here. We find it ironic that these upcoming months which end with "ber" are all the cold months that wrap up the end of the year. (Think: brrr, it's cold!) Then come the "ary" months- they are indeed airy, freezy, and cold! Anyway, this section of the newsletter seems to always turn into a unsupervised ramble about the month we're entering. Before we get too carried away with that, we want to move our focus back to the true excitement that September brings after our sunny, humid summer: the best time of year for outdoor festivals!

One art festival we're excited to make time for is the Fun Sized Tiny Art festival happening citywide in Northampton Ma. If you find yourself around the Noho area on the weekend of September 26th + 27th, you've got to make sure to meander the streets, take some slower steps, and look closely for all the miniature art displays hiding in plain view! One artist we recently discovered who will be contributing his creative chalk drawings for the event is David Zinn.

You can check out David's website here!

And make sure to grab all the deets for the Northampton Fun Sized Art Fest here!

Fall-Call For Art!

Do you have any paintings or framed artworks you'd like to have us foster during the months of September and October? This one's for you!

We have a 6ft grid-wall space in the center of our store that deserves some beautiful original pieces for our walk-in customers to admire. With gallery lights and plenty of foot traffic coming through each month, this area is the focal point of our shop and often where customers' wandering eyes land first.

Send us a message with pictures of your artwork for consideration! We would love to keep the art relative to the autumn season, but it's not a requirement.

*Your art MUST BE ready to hang via wire!

For The Parents:

School Picture Print Packages

School's officially back in session which means school picture day is right around the corner! Most school photographers nowadays offer digital downloads, where parents can order their own prints independently. For you digital-downloaders, we're excited to offer newly customized print packages including your traditional 8x10's down to the wallet sizes. Each package comes with a choice between matte, glossy, or luster photo paper.

*These aren't limited to school portraits either: they make an excellent choice for sports, pet, and family photography as well!

For The Artists:

Matted Print Packages

It always feels like it comes too quickly, but it's true: September marks the beginning of the holiday festival season. If you're an artist who's planning to have a booth setup at a local fair, this is your sign that you should be getting your print packages ready for sale!

Having your art matted in a sleeve is a great way to elevate your average prints to a higher value. A matted print gives a sense of professionalism, naturally framing the art, giving bazaar meanderers a little extra nudge to stop and take a look. This is a great perk as well for the artists and photographers who love a non-standard size canvas to begin with. Panoramic and odd-inch sized pieces all deserve to be in a frame eventually, and adding a custom mat can fix the ratio of such odd pieces to fit standard frames- making it easier for your customers to find frames for their cherished purchases in the future.

All matted print packages come with a fine art paper of your choice, foam core backing, and any color mat we have in stock.

A Local Artist Is Headed To The Louvre!

One thing we hear all too frequently is healthy sarcasm from humble artists who love to poke a little fun at themselves, specifically statements that have word-for-word quoted:

"It's not like I'm going to the Louvre!"

For those who don't know, the Louvre is a world known art gallery and museum in France that happens to be the home of famous paintings such as the Mona Lisa.

Well, one quiet day in early August, our familiar local art committee member, Alan Morin of Monson, stopped in with two of his original artworks to have digitized for prints. That was when he told us the reason- his artworks were going to be displayed in the Louvre in October, and he wanted to ensure he had high quality scans for prints in case the pieces sell! We were totally blindsided with joy over his phenomenal achievement.

We wanted to share this local story in our newsletter not only to celebrate Alan, but to also inspire the artists (or any of our readers!) who doubt themselves. As Alan said best in the article, "you never know where art can take you."

Art Prompt Calendar

An art prompt is a great way to break free from a creative block. Prompts can often be a single word, lighting a spark for other creative ideas. In every monthly newsletter, we'll include a fresh calendar full of daily art prompts for our creative subscribers who could use a nudge of inspiration. We'd love to see what you come up with, so make sure to tag us on the socials if you share your art!

Closures, Hourly Changes, and Other Stuff:

Please note, we will be CLOSED on the following dates in September:
